MEET CHRIS AGUILAR, OWNER OF MOTHER’S FRIEND DOULA SERVICES
DEDICATION TO PREGNANCY, INFANTS AND THE BUILDING OF HEALTHY FAMILIES
My passion for pregnancy and childbirth is as old as my earliest memories. The birth of a younger sibling ignited a powerful interest in pregnant women, new babies and growing families. I have turned that interest into an ability to provide sensitive and knowledgeable support before, during and after the birth of your new baby. I see every pregnancy and birth as a miracle and as a DONA Int'l certified Doula, I feel honored to be able to contribute my expertise to women and families in the Walla Walla Valley and beyond.
I married my husband David in 1993 and we have 4 amazing children: Manny, Micah, Mason and Maggie. David is a registered nurse and works for the Walla Walla VA. Manny serves as a registered nurse in Tri-Cities, WA. Micah is college student pursuing a teaching degree. Mason and Maggie attend local schools and are active in sports and community clubs.
I spent the early years of my adult life in my dream job, being a stay-at-home mom and running our home. From 2009-2014 our family provided a home to local children in the foster care system, mostly newborn infants. This was a very rewarding time that led to the adoptions of our youngest 2 children. After a period of work in a local child care facility as the Lead Teacher in the Infant Room, in Spring of 2019 I started my doula business. I added Childbirth Education soon after starting the business.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, hanging out with friends and having a nice glass of white wine, and quiet time with my family. I love to crochet and use soaks in a bubble bath to combat the physical and emotional toll of birth.
Our family active in a local church and other community activities. We have many local friendships and resources and are committed to life in the Walla Walla Valley.
I look forward to speaking with you about your unique needs and learning more about your thoughts and concerns regarding the coming birth of your new baby.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
"With Chris by my side I was able to achieve my goal (of an unmedicated birth). She was super supportive, she made me feel like it was all about me and my baby! I recommend Chris to be your doula, if it’s your first child or your 5th..." ~ Sarai
"How can I thank you Chris for the sense of confidence you gave us going into the birth of our 2nd child. Your knowledge base and calm manner was so helpful. You were constantly available to answer questions, make suggestions and just be there with a loving word or touch. You seemed to be ready at any moment to devote all your time and attention to our specific needs. Your positivity and authenticity made a big difference in the challenging moments. You were so attentive to our oldest daughter, respectful of our home environment and helped my husband stay relaxed as well. Chris, you seemed to really understand my preferences and you were so supportive of my decisions. I wish you had been there for my first delivery! You really made a difference this time. I can honestly say I would highly recommend your services to anyone who is expecting, or who has recently given birth. Thank you so much, from the bottom of our grateful hearts!" ~ Aimee
I had peace of mind going into my first birth experience knowing Chris would be right there beside us. She was so helpful in offering advice and talking through what to expect during labor. She was also great at talking through different scenarios of what might happen during the birth experience. I felt more confident after talking through our birth plan together. During labor she was so helpful in encouraging and reminding me I could do it. I wanted an all natural labor and she encouraged me with whatever decision I made. I especially appreciated her trying different positions with me during labor to make me more comfortable. And her knowledge of pressure points really saved the day during labor. I couldn't have had such a positive experience without her. I would highly recommend her expertise. You won't be disappointed. She will be right there through the whole process. ~Stephanie
"She helped me cope with the pains of birth, helped get my questions answered, kept me in the know and strong. When the time came and I decided I needed an epidural, we had a plan and she was there to support it. When the time came to push she was by my side, talking me through it..." ~Ariana
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT DOES A BIRTH DOULA DO?
A Birth Doula offers physical, emotional and informational support to a woman as she prepares to give birth. A Birth Doula does not perform clinical tasks, make decisions for you or speak on your behalf.
WHAT TYPE OF BIRTHS
DO YOU ATTEND?
I have experience attending all kinds of births and would be comfortable in almost any setting. Whether it's your first baby or your 10th, a hospital or home birth, medicated or not, vaginal or Cesarean birth, I will give you the support that it is right for you.
DO YOU PERFORM THE SAME PROCEDURES AS MY PROVIDER?
I do not offer medical advice or perform any clinical tasks. All of your medical care, including things like vaginal exams, blood pressure management or fetal heart monitoring will be performed by your medical team.
WHAT ABOUT DADS, FAMILY
AND FRIENDS SUPPORT?
A doula completely supports the laboring woman. Family and friends are liberated to experience the birth knowing Mom is in good hands. This freedom allows Dads and others to participate in a calm, relaxed manner, which in turn benefits the birthing mother.
WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER
THE COST OF A DOULA?
Maybe. Some insurance companies may reimburse for the cost of a doula or allow HSA/FSA resources to pay the doula fees. Check with your insurance carrier for more information regarding your specific plan coverage.
WHAT ABOUT COVID?
As concerns over Covid-19 begin to lessen, hospitals are starting to allow the support of a doula with a laboring woman and her partner. However, in-person Childbirth Education classes are still hard to come by. Mother's Friend is rising to the challenge to provide education and support by digital means and in person as allowed. Please contact Chris now for more information and visit the website periodically to see what's available. Together we can find our way through these challenging times.
HOW ARE YOU DEALING WITH COVID-19 ISSUES?
As a birth doula I practice strict hygiene protocols. In addition, I will have a mask and gloves available to wear as needed. You and your baby's health and well-being are of the utmost concern.
WON'T MY NURSE/MIDWIFE/DOCTOR
DO EVERYTHING I NEED?
Each member of the birth team provides an essential function. The role of the doula is unique as she has the sole duty to anticipate the birthing mother's emotional and physical needs. She provides comfort and assurance without the distraction of other responsibilities. The doula is there for you, Mama, and for no other reason.
WHEN SHOULD WE INTERVIEW AND HIRE A DOULA?
The best answer is - as soon as you feel like you need one! The sooner you hire me, the more you are able to benefit from my support and expertise. On the fence? Consultations for any service are always free,
